The Potters House School

The Potter's House provides a Christ-centered education to children of all ethnic heritages and income levels, equipping them to serve God and society to their fullest potential.

The Potter's House offers an excellent academic program in an urban environment. Rooted in Biblical principles and values, The Potter's House encourages students to reach their full potential by maintaining a healthy spiritual, physical, social, and emotional life. The Potter's House challenges students and their families to grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Potter's House promotes unity and reconciliation in the Roosevelt Park Community.

MENTORING

Outside of teachers, many of our high school students lack a positive role model. We began the mentoring program in an effort to change that trend. Would you be interested in coming alongside one of our students to provide an example and support in a variety of areas?

Urban Family Ministries

Urban Family Ministries exists for one reason: to reach the less fortunate families in urban areas of Grand Rapids by providing resources to meet their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Through an organizational and funding network that includes churches, businesses, and individuals, Urban Family Ministries has been able to provide "hands on" ministry, physically serving urban families where they live. Our weekly Super Saturday event, one-on-one relationship building, and mentoring programs that reach children (and eventually their parents) are all tools Urban Family Ministries uses to show the love of Jesus in a real and practical way.

One-on-One Mentoring
A natural result of the Public School Outreach is the relationship building that occurs between UFM volunteers and the students they serve. Urban Family Ministries’ mentoring program is designed to enhance these relationships. Our volunteer mentors work with one or two students (and often their families) by simply “hanging out” regularly, loving them in all sorts of ways. Sometimes it’s just going out for ice-cream, while other times it’s talks about life, relationships, doing the right thing, Jesus or anything else. Many of the children have said that the time with their UFM Mentor is the highlight of their week.

Wedgwood Christian Services

Wedgwood: The Home Based Services program serves boys and girls 7-15 years of age who have not yet been involved with the juvenile justice system; however they have come into contact with Network 180. Wedgwood seeks mentors who can be a positive role model and teach good behavior in order to prevent any possible future interaction with the juvenile justice system. Mentors must be at least 18 years of age and have own transportation. Mentors must undergo a DHS and criminal history background check and complete a certain amount of hours of training provided by Wedgwood. Mentors should also fill out an application and will then be hired by Wedgwood. Depending on the time length required and services being offered to each youth in the Home Based Services Program, a mentor should make a commitment to meet with the mentee for at least 1 hour a week for the duration of 6 months to 1 year.
